United announces interline e-ticketing with Delta
United Airlines has announced that from 14 August it will offer interline electronic ticketing with Delta Air Lines.
The interline agreement will allow customers to use a single electronic ticket when their itineraries include travel on both carriers.
Customers of both airlines will benefit from this new agreement if a need arises for them to be re-booked from one airline to the other. Previously, customers ticketed electronically would be required to convert tickets to paper before transferring between carriers, because neither airline had access to the other’s electronic ticket database.
Interline electronic ticketing changes this by bridging the two different airline computer reservation systems, allowing access to electronically stored information.
United also has the ability to issue interline electronic tickets that include any combination of United, American, Air Canada, Continental and Northwest travel.
“With today’s announcement, United now has interline electronic ticketing in place with the nation’s major carriers,” said airport operations senior vice president Pete McDonald..
“This is just another example of our commitment to continually streamlining the airport check-in process for our customers.”
According to United, more than 70% of its customers travelling worldwide use e-tickets.
