United to charge extra for front row seats
United Airlines will start charging extra for seats at the front of the regular economy cabin.
United has dubbed them ‘select standard’ which are the first few rows behind the Economy Plus section.
These select standard seats are no different to regular stand seats and have the same amount of legroom.
United spokeswoman Maddie King said the fee will be rolled out this year but didn’t disclose how much it will be or how many seats will be designated as select standard.
United’s Corporate Preferred Elite and United MileagePlus Premier will be exempt from the fee but all other passengers will pay at the time of booking, King said.
However, if select standard seats are still available at check-in customers will be able to select them at no extra cost.
