Update on Crete

Friday, 15 Aug, 2008 0

Melanie  Georgiou, one of GMTC’s reservation consultants has just returned from several weeks in Greece.

During her visit Melanie inspected many of the hotels and destinations in the company’s Greece program, spending most of her time in Crete.

Here are Melanie’s top tips:

Favourite places to stay in Heraklion [pictured below] – Melanie recommends the 4.5 star Lato hotel which she believes provides excellent value for money and is ideally located in the heart of the city just opposite the port and close to transport and tours to Knossus.

For a well priced five star hotel Melanie loved the Atlantis Hotel which is located close to the archaeological museum and has a commanding view of Heraklion’s spectacular harbour.

Both hotels feature in GMTC’s selection of accommodation on Crete.

Chania NW Coast of Crete [pictured at the top] – Melanie thought Chania was a fantastic place to stay with its vibrant atmosphere, excellent tavernas, restaurants and beautiful beaches a short distance from town.

Melanie likes the 3 star Porto Veneziano Hotel located at the entrance of Chania’s port, in the old district of the town and only 300 metres from the city centre. Rooms facing the sea have the best views.

The Venezianio Hotel is included in GMTC’s accommodation options for Crete. The hotel is located to a wide range of outstanding tavernas and restaurants.
