US airlines issue waivers as storms threaten Thanksgiving travel

Airlines have begun issuing flight change waivers and travel advisories as storms threaten to disrupt Thanksgiving travel this week.

The Denver area is expecting big disruption due to heavy snowfall and waivers have been issued by Delta, Southwest, Frontier and United Airlines.

By Monday night more than 400 flights had been cancelled at Denver Airport.

Airport spokesperson Emily Williams urged all travellers to check the status of their flight before setting off.

It is all set to be the busiest Thanksgiving holiday yet with more than 55 million people expected to travel by road and by air and a number of weather systems are threatening to severely hamper travel across the country.

Delta Air Lines is issuing a travel waiver for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport ahead of a winter storm which could unload several inches of snow across the Twin Cities region.

California, the Pacific Northwest and the Great Lakes region could all see travel hold-ups over the next 48 hours.
