US Airways flight attendants come to ‘tentative’ terms
US Airways has announced that it has reached a ‘tentative’ agreement on a collective bargaining agreement with the airlines 6,800 mainline flight attendants through the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA).
The agreement would cover US Airways’ mainline flight attendants based Washington, D.C. and in the airlines’ three hub cities (Phoenix, Philadelphia, Charlotte, N.C.).
The AFA’s website says the tentative agreement would extend industry-loading job protections and overall economic improvements to all US Airways flight attendants. The AFA statement points to a potential merger with American Airlines as a major reason the union wanted a deal in place now.
The statement on the AFA site said:
"Flight Attendants made clear it had to be ‘Our Contract First’, before any new merger. And now Flight Attendants have the opportunity to secure their contract first.
"Flight Attendants have contributed to the success of US Airways, positioning our airline for a potential merger with American Airlines. An agreement for US Airways Flight Attendants is essential for the airline to take a positive step forward with its current workers as partners in the process."
