US: back to Vietnam
United Airlines launched the first US commercial flight to Vietnam in almost 30 years, apparently looking to capture one of the fastest-growing Asian markets.
“It is the fastest growing aviation market in Asia right now and probably one of the two fastest economies,” said United spokesman Stephan Roth.
The last flight out of Vietnam by a US carrier was Pan Am in 1975.
Lured by the one of the fastest-expanding aviation markets in Asia, United Airlines on Thursday launches the first U.S. commercial flight to Vietnam since the fall of Saigon in 1975.
United is offering a daily Boeing 747-400 connection from San Francisco via Hong Kong.
Vietnamese air travel is expected to grow 10.5% per year for the next 10 years, according to the International Air Transport Association.
