US diverts flight to intercept passenger
US authorities have reportedly diverted an Air France flight from Paris to Boston to another airport in the United States, because they wanted to intercept a passenger travelling on the aircraft.
According to the BBC News website, the plane, which was carrying 165 passengers, was ordered to land at Bangor, Maine, because one of the passengers had been named on a “terror watch” list.
The website reports that the service continued on to Boston once the man and three of his family members had been taken off the plane.
The BBC quotes officials as saying that the diversion took place because of “an abundance of caution”.
It goes on to report that Bangor airport director Rebecca Hupp said it was “not yet clear” whether the person really was named on the terror list – or whether it had been another case of mistaken identity.
