US Embassy issues alert as Trump arrives in the UK
US tourists are being warned to ‘keep a low profile’ during President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK this week.
Trump and first lady Melania are flying into London Stansted Airport today (Thursday) on the President’s first visit to Britain since his election win.
Extra security has been put in place for the visit and the US Embassy in London has issued travel alerts warning of ‘numerous demonstrations’.
"The majority of the demonstrations will be focused in central London on July 13, with other events planned for July 12 and 14. Several of the events are expected to attract large crowds and there will be road closures in connection with those events," it said.
It said several demonstrations are also planned in Scotland on July 13 and 14.
The Embassy told visitors to be aware of their surroundings, exercise caution if ‘unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent’, and to monitor local media for updates.
Trump will meet with the US Ambassador at Winfield House, London, today then attend dinner at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.’¨’¨
On Friday he will meet Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May at Chequers and the Queen at Windsor Castle before flying to his golf resort, Turnberry, in Scotland where he will play golf on Saturday.
A crowdfunding campaign has raised more than £30,000 to make a giant balloon of a Trump ‘baby’ which will fly above London during his visit.
