US hotel capacity expanding faster than demand
Meeting planners will see more hotel availability in a majority of major US cities next year, said PKF Consulting in a recent report.
The reason for the slight increase: increased room supply is outpacing demand, said the survey.
Room inventory should grow 2% next year over this year. Demand will increase only 1.4%, said PKF.
But the slight occupancy decline will leave planners scrambling for rooms during high-demand times in major cities.
“Travelers should expect to face capacity situations in most cities,” said R. Mark Woodworth, president of PKF Hospitality Research.
Hotels in regions most impacted by hurricanes are likely to find the greatest occupancy declines, according to PKF.
