US mulling TSA liquid limit change
Following the scrapping of the shoes off rule at TSA security screening, the liquid restriction in carry on bags could be the next unpopular rule to change.
The liquid rule for carry-on bags could be the next airport security measure to be overhauled.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem suggested this week that a change on the carriage of liquids in the cabin is being looked at
“The liquids…may be the next big announcement is what size your liquids need to be,” Noem said.
The TSA’s liquids rule requires it to be no more than 3.4 ounces and stored in a resealable plastic bag.
This was introduced in the mid-2000s.
All larger quantities of liquids and gels must be placed in checked bags.
Noem said a change would likely start with pilot programs at some airports before rolling out nationwide at all airports.
“Secretary Noem and TSA are constantly looking for ways to enhance security, and improve the travel experience for the public,” the DHS said.
