US Travel Association welcomes Global Entry expansion for UK

Tuesday, 04 Nov, 2015 0
US Travel Association CEO Roger Dow has hailed the decision by Customs and Border Protection to extend Global Entry to travelers from the UK.

"The UK is the top overseas travel market to the US, last year sending four million that spent $13.5 billion. With one American job created for every 35 overseas visitors, the benefits of facilitating even more travel from the UK are just what the doctor ordered as our economy continues its recovery," Dow said.

"Technology and advanced screening protocols allow us to identify low-risk travelers, simultaneously boosting the economy by facilitating more travel and security by eliminating risks."

Global Entry enables pre-approved low risk travelers to bypass airport immigration on arrival.

From next month British citizens can register via the UK Home Office website and then are vetted, prior to an interview with a US official before being enrolled.

The fee for a five-year membership is $100.

Global Entry is available at 46 US airports and more than a dozen pre-clearance locations, including in Germany, the Netherlands and South Korea.
