US travellers expect to holiday closer to home
US leisure travellers are planning to take their holidays closer to home during 2002 according to research released yesterday.
The NFO Plog Research American Traveller Survey, looked at the travel interests of over 9,000 households in the US.
It shows that car travel and local destinations stand to benefit the most in 2002 from changes in US travel habits, as leisure travelers opt to take car trips rather than fly. According to the research 5% more travellers plan to visit destinations within 200 miles from home and there is a corresponding drop in plans to visit locations over 500 miles from home.
According to the research company: “International travel represents the weakest area for leisure, with 9% of travelers noting a drop, and likely to decline further, according to respondents’ plans for the near future.”
