USD300m extreme sports resort coming to Central Florida
Skiers and snowboarders may soon get their winter sports fix year-round in sunny Central Florida.
That is the possibility after details of a proposed $309 million extreme sports resort were unveiled for Kissimmee.
The project, yet to receive the go-ahead by Osceola County, is proposed by Xero Gravity Action Sports LLC, which expects the resort to be open by 2018.
It plans a host of extreme sports activities on-site including a surf pool with 10-feet waves and boogie boarding area, a BMX race track, two skydiving pods, a 140 feet rock climbing wall, and ziplining throughout the resort.
The snow sports area will feature a 14-story ski and snowboard mountain with snowing tube lanes and even a ‘snowball’ fight arena.
"Our company is creating the next step in the tourism sports industry. We are developing a one-of-a-kind sports and entertainment resort which provides unique hands-on experiences," said founder and CEO Larry Walshaw.
The development will also feature a 250-room Hyatt branded hotel, a 2,000-seat amphitheater, swimming pools, a day spa, retail outlets and restaurants.
If approved, Walshaw expects the resort to attract up to one million visitors a year supporting 1,000 new jobs.
