Valley of Stars lives up to name

San Fernando Valley, the so-called “Valley of the Stars” and home to more than 100 movie-TV companies, is becoming a first-run attraction for planners, say CVB officials.

"We’ve heard positive feedback from meeting planners and attendees that it feels so different than what is expected of LA," said Monica Smith of the area just north of downtown Los Angeles. She is director of sales and client services at the Pasadena CVB. "There is an appeal to being close to downtown and Hollywood, but we have our own vibe."

In addition to a more laid-back atmosphere that’s removed from the hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan star like LA, area airports make getting to the valleys a snap, says Meeting News.

In addition, major film and television studios are available for memorable group events, and the valleys boast an array of fine-dining, championship golf and shopping opportunities.

The area is home to ABC, CBS, NBC, Universal Studios and the Walt Disney Company, among others.

"There is more production in the San Fernando Valley than in Hollywood," said Bruce Ackerman, CEO and president of the San Fernando Valley Conference and Visitors Center.

Another lure is for visitors to watch TV tapings for free as well as the possibility of celebrity sightings.

They might be found on Ventura Boulevard, which has upwards of 400 restaurants.
