Vegas union turns up the burners
If you are headed for the Las Vegas Cosmopolitan Hotel, be prepared to cross a picket line.
After two years of unsuccessful negotiating and four protests outside the hotel, the Culinary Union is turning up the heat.
Last week it began picketing outside the hotel every weekend, and its own workers will be joined on occasion by workers from visiting unions.
The Cosmopolitan is 100% owned by Deutsche Bank.
The Culinary Union, which represents about 60,000 bartenders, maids and food servers, also is in negotiations with MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment Corp., but they have signed temporary contract extensions.
In a statement issued Friday the Cosmopolitan said it is negotiating in good faith and is "hopeful that progress can continue in a positive direction."
