Vietnam Airlines confirms data breach
Vietnam Airlines has gone public on the data breach which has impacted millions of customers.
It is tied to a global leak of customer data which compromised dozens of brands.
The data breach came via a ‘third-party customer service platform.’
“Vietnam Airlines is among several global companies using its services that have been affected by this incident. Unauthorised access may have occurred to certain customer data processed through this platform,” it said.
“Upon being alerted, Vietnam Airlines took action in coordination with relevant authorities, cybersecurity experts, and its third-party partner to investigate the breach.”
The airline says no data has been leaked which identifies customers’ payment information, passwords, and travel itineraries.
“Vietnam Airlines advises customers to stay alert to potential phishing attempts as well as any suspicious emails or phone calls impersonating Vietnam Airlines.”
Vietnam Airlines sincerely regrets any concern this incident may have caused.”
The airline has disclosed few specifics but the cyberattack is thought to have targeted Salesforce, which compromised customer data of nearly 40 companies.
This includes Qantas, Disney and other many global brands.
The hacker collective Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters leaked the data on the dark web this week after Salesforce refused to pay a ransom.
