Vietnam Airlines pilots grounded after landing on runway under construction
Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is investigating why a Vietnam Airlines jet carrying 203 passengers landed on a closed, still under construction runway.
The runway at Nha Trang Airport was closed off and is not even connected to the rest of the airport as it does not yet have a taxiway.
That caused an initial holdup as the Airbus jet was effectively stuck there with no way for passengers and baggage to get to the terminal building.
The landing on the unready runway surface caused slight damage to an engine.
The Civil Aviation Authority called it a serious incident and grounded the two pilots while a full investigation takes place.
