Vietnam carriers ink Boeing aircraft deals

Friday, 20 Feb, 2026 0

Two Vietnam carriers have signed major aircraft orders with plane maker Boeing.

Vietnam Airlines has finalised its first Boeing single-aisle order for 50 737 Max jets.

The 737-8 fleet will propel Vietnam Airlines’ domestic and regional route growth plans, it says.

“Vietnam Airlines is taking a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to strengthening its capabilities and fleet modernisation,” said Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of Vietnam Airlines.

“The investment in 50 Boeing 737-8 aircraft marks a significant step in building a modern, fuel-efficient fleet,” Hoa added.

Vietnam Airlines fleet currently includes 17 787 Dreamliners, which are deployed between Vietnam and Europe, and regional routes.

Meanwhile, leisure airline Sun PhuQuoc Airways agreed an order for up to 40 Dreamliner aircraft with Boeing.

This is valued at around$22.5 billion at list prices.

The Dreamliners will enable the airline to start intercontinental services to the US and Europe.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways is a new airline that was only established a year ago.

Separately, low cost carrier VietJet will acquire six Boeing 737 planes via Griffin Global Asset Management in a financing deal valued at nearly $1 billion.
