Virgin Holidays First Big Operator to Build Sustainable Donation Into its Pricing
Virgin Holidays has upped its responsible business ante by incorporating a 50p donation (25p for children) per passenger to the Travel Foundation into all its holiday packages. The operator already partners with the responsible tourism charity on a number of community based projects worldwide, including the recent launch of a sustainable seafood programme in Tobago.
“By making the decision for our customers to build a small donation into their holidays, we make a big difference to the Travel Foundation’s ability to steer us all further along the path to a more sustainable future in our industry. Our customers are interested in sustainability and are keen to find a practical way to enjoy their holidays and invest in the future of the destinations they explore with us†said Rachel McCaffery, Virgin Holidays’ Responsible Business Manager.
Sue Hurdle, Chief Executive at The Travel Foundation, added: “This exciting news makes Virgin Holidays the first of our major supporters to build a Travel Foundation donation into the price of a holiday – this will generate substantial funds which will make a real difference to the programmes we are able to deliver in destinations to help local communities, wildlife and the environment. We are delighted with this new level of support from Virgin Holidays, and are looking forward to working alongside the company on the delivery of new and expanding programmes.”
Virgin Holidays is the headline sponsor of the 2008 Responsible Tourism Awards.
