Virgin Atlantic says working with the trade is paying dividends for the airline, which enjoyed a bumper month in August.

Speaking in Kissimmee, Florida at Virgin's Champion of Champions golf tournament, the airline's general manager of sales Paul Wait told TravelMole: " August was a record month for market share from both the business travel and leisure travel agencies, which demonstrates what a mutually beneficial working relationship can achieve.

“This is reinforced in a number of ways not least of which is to work with other industry partners such as destination companies and tourist boards to create business demand and deliver value to each other, hence this business-related golf tournament now in its fourth year."

Held over three days, the tournament attracted representatives from many of the UK's leading business and leisure agencies who had competed in a series of qualifiers held across Britain and Ireland.

The event, now a highlight of the travel industry calendar, was also supported by Dollar Thrifty and the Kissimmee Convention Bureau .

Wait added: “We would like to thank our co-sponsors of the Champions event and all of the individuals who have participated in what has been a very competitive tournament. Throughout the trip we have been able to bond many relationships and get detailed honest feedback on our current and future services."
