Virgin steps in to help Qantas passengers
Virgin Australia wasted no time in offering to accommodate stranded Qantas passengers and will look to add on additional services to support travellers.
The airline is also in discussions with alliance partners to add extra capacity into the market as soon as possible.
The Virgin offer followed within an hour of Qantas CEO Alan Joyce announcing that Qantas would ground its entire fleet, and lock-out workers in response to ongoing union industrial action which is costing the Australian flag carrier $15 million per week in lost revenue.
Virgin Australia will offer special “Stranded Passenger†recovery fares for passengers who are currently at a port away from home and hold a Qantas ticket to return home initially within the next five days.
These special fares are subject to availability.
