Visit Devon looking for ‘Devon X Factor’

Monday, 17 Nov, 2008 0

Visit Devon is on the search for passionate Devonians prepared to declare their love for the county in a national campaign to promote Devon to the rest of the UK.

In a series of open auditions to be held this month in Barnstaple, Exeter and Plymouth, a judging panel including celebrity chef Michael Caines, will be searching for the ultimate Devon ambassadors, people with an unparalleled love for Devon who are willing to go out and shout about it.

Three finalists will be chosen from the auditions and given a budget and the task of promoting Devon to the nation for a period of one month in January 2009, with the ultimate goal of attracting more visitors to the county. The person or group that delivers the most successful publicity campaign will be awarded a prize of £10,000.

The lovemydevon campaign is being launched by Visit Devon with the aim of promoting Devon as a year round quality visitor destination. The campaign has been funded by over 30 tourism organisations across the county together with Devon County Council, the Devon Association of Tourist Attractions (DATA) and Devon Farms.

Anyone who lives in Devon and has a passion for the county is invited to come along to the auditions. The expert judging panel will be led by celebrity chef and hotelier Michael Caines and will also include Nicola Poultney, CEO of Visit Devon.

Visit Devon’s Chief Executive Nicola Poultney comments; “In our ‘X Factor’ style auditions we are searching for people who are outgoing and prepared to share their love for the county and their secrets on why Devon is such a special place to visit for business or leisure. We are hoping to find the county’s finest ambassadors who are prepared to do whatever it takes to engage the nation and tempt more visitors to Devon.”

“With so much competition to get noticed we were looking for something really innovative and we think this is a first for a British tourism organisation. We believe the people of Devon will be the ideal tourism ambassadors.”

Michael Caines adds: “Who better to be tasked with promoting Devon than Devonians themselves. This is the perfect opportunity for some of our most dedicated and creative residents to share their love for Devon with the rest of the nation.”
