Visit Florida launches hi-tech ‘beach finder’ tool
Sun seekers planning a trip to Florida now have some high-tech help when choosing the ideal beach vacation.
The state’s tourism organization Visit Florida has launched ‘The Florida Beach Finder’ on its website allowing travelers to virtually stroll along the sands of all Florida beaches, from bustling South Beach in Miami to quieter spots such as Cayo Costa.
It has panoramic 360-degree images of beaches using Google Street View tech which can be selected based on user preference.
Categories to select beach preferences include adventurous, romantic, family-friendly, action packed and laidback.
A Google team spent four months last summer mapping and photographing all 800 miles of Florida beaches for the project.
2013 was a banner year for the Sunshine State with 95 million visitors, confirming tourism as the state’s top industry.
According to Visit Florida vice president Susannah Costello, travelers can "dig their virtual toes into any of Florida’s beaches and find their dream beach before they come."
"For Florida, it’s an opportunity to showcase the greatest variety of beach experiences in the world," she added.
