Visitors rise, forward bookings slump for UK tourism
UK tourism has reported sluggish forward bookings with a sales decline in February of 0.5%.
But in its latest business barometer, UKinbound said visitor arrivals increased 1.6%.
Chief executive Stephen Dowd said the performance masked a wide disparity in the results of UKinbound members.
“Some have recorded solid growth and others a sharp decline,” he said. “Other than hotels reporting robust business, the reasons for these differences are not clear.”
He said while the UK was a “must-see” destination, it was clear the high cost of visiting Britain delayed some tourists or led to shorter stays.
