Wanted at Memphis airport: missing dog
Airport officials in Memphis are on the lookout for a lost 75-pound Great Dane, with posters offering a $250 reward for the animal last seen escaping from her crate at the Northwest Airlines cargo area.
“Bailey” is believed to be roaming the airport’s fenced property.
Laura Pierce sent her dog from Seattle to Memphis while she and her 6-month-old son traveled to Florida, reported the Associated Press.
The dog was supposed to stay with her in-laws, Richard and Lelia Ripley, who were at the airport to retrieve the dog.
Northwest has lost two pets and two have been injured since May 2005 when the Department of Transportation began requiring airlines to report incidents involving pets.
Reports show 45 pets have died, 27 were injured and 12 were lost on US airlines in the 18-month period. Necropsies on many of the animals showed they died of natural causes or pre-existing conditions, said the AP.
