Web access expands at Marriott and BAA airports
Improved high speed internet access has been confirmed by Marriott and BAA’s UK airports.
A new contract with Marriott sees wireless internet connectivity provider iBAHN expand high speed internet access to 9,000 rooms in more than 60 hotels.
The company has previously deployed Wi-Fi ‘hot spots’ in the public areas at a number of Marriott properties, as well as offering internet PCs and managed conference services.
Marriott executive vice president for the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Africa Jurgen Giesbert said: “We are delighted that we will be able to offer high-speed, secure internet access at all of our UK hotels.
“High-speed, secure connectivity is an essential service for today’s travellers no matter where they are staying. We have noticed significant growth in demand for this service in our UK regional hotels in recent months, and iBAHN was the obvious choice of technology partner to meet that demand.”
Meanwhile, Stansted has become the first of six BAA airports to offer extended Wi-Fi coverage in a deal with network operator The Cloud. Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Southampton are due to follow by the end of the month.
All major public seating and retail areas in departure and arrivals zones will be covered in airport terminals. Passengers purchase a Cloud PayGo voucher giving access ranging from 30 minutes to 24 hours.
The Cloud will also offer connectivity to UK service providers such as BT Openzone, O2, Skype, credEcard and Nintendo WiFi Connection.
