WestJet customers targeted by telemarketing scam
Canadian carrier WestJet is alerting customers of a telemarketing scam.
It says a group of scammers have been targeting customers, posing as airline employees.
In a release, the airline warned the public not to share personal or credit card information.
It reiterated it does not conduct telemarketing activities.
"It’s important the public is aware that these calls are not coming from WestJet or a representative of WestJet," said Richard Bartrem, WestJet vice-president of marketing communications.
"Many of us here have been on the receiving end of these calls and understand the irritation they are causing. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to the public and encourage Canadians to report their concerns."
WestJet also warned of possible ‘misdial traps.’
Scammers have been known to use toll-free numbers close to a company’s legitimate number in order to defraud unsuspecting customers who dial a wrong number.
