What a difference a convention centre will make
The tourism dollar is a much sought after commodity and the conference dollar is one of the best currencies. Whether it’s a euro, buck or poundor yen, every country wants them.
That’s why Dublin is about to open its wallet and splash €400m on a brand new convention centre in the docklands area of town.
A five minute walk from the city centre will have delegates arriving at the new convention centre when it opens in 2010. With a plenary capacity of 2000 it will attract a significant slice of the European inbound conference market.
The convention centre will be a first for Ireland. With an accommodation infrastructure already in place, it will complete the commercial tourism offer.
Operators in the industry are rejoicing, acknowledging the additional spin off from the facility. Pre and post tours will automatically ensue as international delegates head in all directions from their conferences.
Paul O’Toole, the CEO of Tourism Ireland said “This has been a long time in the planning but now we can attract and even stronger market. It’s just another reason for people to visit Ireland.”
