GOING FOR GOLD
The recreated gold mining village at Gold Reef City reflects the history of gold mining in Gauteng and takes one back to Joburg’s rough and tumble past. Whether you take an underground tour or shop as an alternative venue for jazz. Home to one of the co for souvenirs, its great fun for the entire family.

SMOOTH VIBES
The Vaal River, in Sedibeng, is gaining a reputation. The country’s oldest jazz festivals, Jazz by the River, the Vaal region plays frequent host to some of the finest voices around. Combine smooth vibes with a boat cruise and a visit to the province’s oldest town, Heidelberg, which dates back to 1865. Jazz by the River Festival.

WILD DINING
The Carnivore Restaurant is a great place for out-of-towners to experience legendary African cooking and hospitality. An array of meat dishes served in a boma-inspired setting keeps patrons glued to their tables until the wee hours. Enjoy Dawa’s, an East-African drink with kick – perfect for those wintry highveld blues!

CONCRETE JUNGLE
Pretoria and Joburg are home to some of the world’s finest zoological gardens. Visit them and discover why South Africa is considered a respected world leader in the breeding and relocation of endangered species. Combining a visit to the Pretoria Zoo with a trip to the De Wildt Cheetah Reserve is suggested for those wanting to do a day-trip with the kids.

BREWING UP A STORM
Enjoy a tour of brewing magic and get a free beer at the SAB World of Beer – a unique museum showcasing the slow art of beer brewing.

UNDERGROUND
A 2.2 million-year-old cave, the Wonder Cave is situated within the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. The cavern contains spectacular stalactites, stalagmites and underground pools. For those with more time on their hands, combine a tour of the cave with a fossil tour or visit one of the private game reserves or sanctuaries in the vicinity.

HIGH LIVING
Going from strength to strength, Melrose Arch is accumulating accolades as Joburg’s trendiest 24-hour hotspot. Experience High Street living on the area’s main avenue, or party the night away at Kilimanjaro, a club frequented by locals and out-of-town business folk. Definitely a must on one’s social calendar.

REMEMBER
The Apartheid Museum houses an exhibition that takes visitors on a dramatic, emotional journey through the Apartheid years. This museum offers a sobering insight into the often painful history that has shaped Gauteng and the rest of the country.
