Where do you go after paradise?
Iconic Malawi lakeside sustainable lodge up for sale
The most beautiful place on Lake Malawi – Mazuki Beach Lodge is up for sale. The family who built the sustainable property with strong community connections, have to move on.
Said Lara Pollard "Makuzi Beach is now finished and has a very good reputation and is the most beautiful place on the lakeshore (assisted with our location being a private cove) We now feel it is time to move on and give our boys an opportunity where they have more interaction with people their own ages (we are very remote!)"
"So we now want to sell Makuzi Beach Lodge. We have a restaurant, bar, 12 chalets, a self catering cottage, camping site with ablution block, laundry area, workshop area, huge gardens and nursery, water sport equipment, a car and all the fittings in the lodge for it to run successfully."
The lodge has built up a reputation for sustainability as it employs sustainable waste management systems, minimizes the use of toxic or non-biodegradable chemicals, plants native trees., protects native fauna and flora. and employs sustainable waste management systems amongst other initiatives. Moreover it employs energy saving tactics and renewable energy as Malawi is solely Hydro electrically powered.
Built using local sustainable building materials whenever possible, and local craftsmen, the traditionally-designed lodge was created to be in harmony with its natural surroundings. The small, 12-room lodge is also very connected with the local community in many other ways – the lodge has always been involved directly with the community through its Shanti Trust.
All staff are employed from the area and trained by the lodge management – a great local opportunity evidenced by the fact that some ex-staff are now successful chefs and waiters in South Africa.
So, a move out of the wilderness for Lara and Brett and their kids, and an opportunity beckons for an adventurous, socially and environmentally aware entrepreneur or two!
