WHO calls on Brits to keep masking up
The World Health Organisation is taking a more measured stance on UK Covid rules by urging Brits is to keep masking up.
Despite England and Northern Ireland dropping rules, Dr David Nabarro, WHO special envoy for Covid says people should still wear masks indoors.
"Please, continue wearing face masks, continue physical distancing – it’s the right thing to do," Nabarro told Sky TV.
"Whatever you hear from other sources, the World Health Organisation asks everyone to maintain caution because the virus is moving around. You don’t want to give the virus a free ticket right now. There is too much virus around to let go."
Restrictions are being eased across Northern Ireland and England but this is a risky move not based in science.
"It is absolutely not a good idea when cases are as high as they are, when the virus is moving as rapidly as it is, for the restrictions that we’ve all applied so carefully to be dropped."
"My own view is, now we know that vaccines can provide protection against long Covid, there is a growing case for immunising children," Nabarro said.
Covid-19 restrictions in Northern Ireland are now no longer mandated and are now only a ‘strong recommendation ‘including self-isolating.
