Why in the world aren’t there more cruise deck chairs?
Consumer Travel investigates a new problem with cruises: not enough deck chairs.
“It’s not just these ships that hold 5,000 people and that deck chairs always seem to be in short supply. Realistically there’s no reason for a ship to have enough chairs to allow everyone aboard to sun bathe simultaneously,” the site says.
Some cruise lines put out signs saying chairs can only be saved for no more than 30 minutes. But that has not solved the chair shortage.
A major reason: there’s no shortage of deck chair hoarders.
Cruise lines are increasingly aware of the issue, and most of them are trying to institute policies such as the 30-minute rule to ensure fairness. But it’s a tough problem.
“In a world where travelers are increasingly being charged for things that used to be free, the idea of renting deck chairs has to be both a boon as a potential revenue source and a worry for cruise lines who don’t want to push their customers to competitors,” writes Traveler.
But here’s a simple, obvious solution: bring your own chairs.
