Why the famous lingerie woman did it
The wheelchair-bound woman who mysteriously wore only her bra and knickers while going through security at Oklahoma Airport uncovers why she did it: She wanted security officials to see she was no threat.
Tammy Banovac told News9.com, a local station, that she had stripped off her trench coat to make any pat-downs by airport security "less invasive" after having a previous bad experience.
"The less of me that they had to pat-down and check, the less invasive the search would be," she said.
"And wearing a bra and panties is just about as minimal as I could get."
Airport and security officials said that at the time police were called over, questioned Banovac, and allowed her to proceed to security.
She was given an "enhanced" pat down because she was in a wheelchair.
The TSA said she was not allowed to proceed to her Southwest Airlines flight to Phoenix after an alarm went off.
Her actions went over the Internet and were widely viewed.
Karen Carney said TSA acted appropriately. "TSA did everything they should have done," said Carney.
Banovac returned to the airport the next morning, again clad in her underwear, and cleared security without incident.
