Widow’s anger at cruise firm’s reported “callous” medical bill

A woman whose husband died while on a cruise to celebrate his 70th birthday has reportedly condemned the company after it reportedly charged her more than £3,600 in medical bills. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Audrey Pollitt, 68, says Celebrity Cruises deducted the money from her credit card without telling her. She reportedly told the newspaper: “I was charged a huge amount of money just to watch him die. I couldn’t believe they could be so callous.” The Mail reports that the couple paid £2,600 for the cruise, on the Galaxy liner. They were in the Cayman Islands when Mr Pollitt suffered his heart attack. It was only after Mrs Pollitt returned home, the newspaper states, that she found out that she had been charged for medical treatment. She is quoted as saying: “I always knew I would have to pay for the medical bills but wasn’t worried because I had insurance. But to be dealt with so insensitively was awful. Royal Caribbean, which owns Celebrity Cruises, reportedly said: “We offer our sympathies to Mrs Pollitt and are addressing her concerns in a positive manner.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
