Wildfire haze delays hundreds of New York flights
Hundreds of flights were delayed at New York airports as the US east coast suffered its worst air quality on record.
Canada wildfires have caused havoc for air travelers with a knock on effect at other hubs such as Atlanta and Houston.
Around 250 flights were delayed Wednesday at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
More than 800 flight delays were reported at New York City airports.
Canada firefighters are struggling to contain hundreds of wildfires with most of the east coast shrouded in thick haze.
The FAA put a temporary ground stop on New York LaGuardia to ease pressure with delays of about two hours for flights.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and looking out for the safety of our employees who work outside: United Airlines said, which has its main hub at Newark.
Millions of people have been advised to stay indoors or mask up when outside.
It has affected air quality as far away as Washington DC.
More than 600 US firefighters have been sent across the border to assist Canada.
