Wildfires lead to road closure near Yosemite
Wildfires in California have led to the closure of a main highway leading to Yosemite National Park.
The Foreign Office has warned tourists that the Highway 120 has been closed – one of the main routes to Yosemite from San Francisco.
State Route 120 has been shut down in both directions for a 4-mile stretch, blocking traffic in and out of Yosemite on its west side, reports the Washington Post, but the park remains open to visitors via State Route 140 and State Route 4.
On the FCO website, it states: "Forest and brush fires (wild fires) are a danger in many dry areas in the summer months. High winds can cause fires to spread very rapidly.
"There are a number of wildfires currently burning in the Western United States including in Idaho and California.
"Visitors to Yosemite National Park may want to be aware that Highway 120 is closed. For more information visit the National Interagency Fire Centre and US Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group websites."
