Windstar fire forces schedule change

Windstar Cruises is relocating the Wind Star to Tahiti after another of its ships based there caught fire and had to be taken out of service.

All passengers had to be evacuated from the Wind Song after a fire broke out in the ship’s engine room on December 1, but there were no injuries reported.

The stricken ship has been taken to the capital Papeete, where Windstar will assess the ship’s damage.

From January 24 Wind Star will operate from Tahiti. The ship’s Costa Rica, Belize and Panama itineraries have all been cancelled.

Passengers on cancelled sailings can rebook and receive a shipboard credit of $250 per person. US agents will receive $100 additional rebooking commissions. Passengers can choose to have a full refund and a 10% future cruise credit.

Windstar pledged to protect travel agents’ commission in the event of passengers receiving a refund.
