Winter Storm Skylar causing more Northeast air travel chaos
Airlines have collectively canceled nearly 1,500 flights for Tuesday and waived change fees as the Northeast braced for another icy blast.
The hardest hit area is likely to be Boston with about two thirds of all Tuesday flights canceled.
Flights at Hartford, Conn., and Providence, R.I have also been cut by about half.
Up to two feet of snow is expected to be dumped on parts of New England along with high winds causing possible power outages.
Heavy snow could make travel ‘near-impossible,’ the National Weather Service said.
American Airlines and Southwest Airlines said it will suspend all flight operations at Boston.
Winter Storm Skylar is the third to hit the Northeast in less than a month.
Last week airlines scrapped more than 2,400 flights due to Winter Storm Quinn.
Waivers have been issued for all major carriers including JetBlue, Delta, United and American Airlines for flights in and out of airports from Maine to Pennsylvania.
More than a dozen airports in the region are significantly affected.
