Winter sun tops Christmas get-aways
One in four people plan to spend Christmas abroad instead of at home, according to a new survey.
Almost a quarter (23%) of people travelling overseas during the festive period will be taking their first trip abroad while 15% said that leaving the UK is part of their Christmas tradition.
The poll of more than 8,000 ebookers.com customers found that 22% will be enjoying quality time with their families, while a quarter will be travelling alone.
More than 40% of those travelling abroad said they are in pursuit of warmer climates and just 17% will be taking part in sporting activities.
The majority are taking long haul flights of over 10 hours. Almost 40% are prepared to pay more for a trip at Christmas than on any other holiday in the year.
Sixty five per cent of Christmas holidaymakers will be travelling to a destination they have visited before.
Of those who are staying at home this Christmas, 90% would consider leaving the hectic preparation, drunken antics and rubbish gifts for a more relaxing time in a hot country, according to the online company.
