With Irene long gone, Bahamas back in business
The Bahamas’ Atlantis, the largest resort in the Caribbean and Bahamas region, was “open and operational” following Hurricane Irene and was welcoming new arrivals well before the storm passed through New York City, officials said.
The resort on Paradise Island had only “minimal” storm damage. Clean-up efforts have been under way since before the weekend.
Major tourism areas in Nassau and Grand Bahama Island and other islands reported minimal damage. Normal operations should be underway there as well.
Cruise ports in Nassau and Grand Bahama Island are also open.
A few airports reported cancelling a scattering of flights.
Bahamas’ Hotels, resorts and attractions are open.
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company also says the country is fully operational for tourists after the hurricane passed through. Hotels and ferries are operating as normal, the site says. Cruise ships and airlines are arriving and departing as scheduled.
Beaches are also open.
