Wizz Air 2021 passenger traffic rebounds
Wizz Air carried 2,638,000 passengers in December 2021, reaching a load factor of 75.4%.
It boosted capacity by nearly 200% compared to 2020.
Wizz Air continues to grow its network and will see major expansion at Gatwick Airport after recently acquiring 15 daily slot pairs from Norwegian Air Shuttle.
The deal means Wizz Air UK will base four additional Airbus A321neo aircraft at Gatwick, bringing the total number of aircraft to five from Spring 2022 onwards.
It will launch new routes from its Gatwick base to 14 new destinations including, Faro, Palma, Larnaca, Catania, Podgorica, Tel Aviv, Chania, Mykonos and Funchal.
There will also be new routes from Milan, Rome, Vienna, Bari and Naples to Gatwick operated by Wizz Air Hungary.
The year-round and seasonal routes will launch from March onwards.
Due to the increase in operations, CO2 emissions increased by 22% in 2021 compared to the previous year with grams per passenger/km down 2.6%.
