Wizz Air boosts Bratislava connectivity with 7 new destinations
Bratislava M. R. Štefánik Airport has turned since November into a new base for ultra-low cost carrier Wizz Air.
The airline took the decision to expand rapidly in Bratislava following the closure of its base at Vienna Schwechat International Airport in late summer. Vienna is roughly an hour away from Bratislava. The move raises consequently Bratislava airport’s status to an unofficial secondary gateway for the Austrian capital.
In November, as Wizz Air opened its newest base in the Slovakian capital, the airline immediatly launched 9 weekly flights to Kosice -the country’s second largest city.
Wizz Air will station until spring 2026 four Airbus A321neo in the Slovak capital. With the two first A321 based in Bratislava, Wizz Air already flies to Alicante (new), Athens (new), Barcelona, Basel/Mulhouse (new), Bucharest, Lamezia Terme, London-Luton, Malaga, Naples (new), Nis (new), Oslo (new), Palermo (new), Plovdiv, Skopje and Varna. In January, the Hungarian low-cost carrier will start flying to Kutaisi (Georgia) and Yerevan (Armenia).
“We are pleased that our cooperation with Wizz Air is offering passengers a wider range of departure and arrival options to and from Bratislava, contributing both to the development of tourism and to the growth of Bratislava Airport, “ explained Dušan Novota, CEO and Chairman of the Board of M. R. Štefánik Airport at the Oslo flight inaugural.
More flights to come in summer 2026
“Wizz Air opened its base in Bratislava in mid-November and will offer a total of 29 routes from Bratislava and 32 routes from Slovakia in 2026, including the long-awaited and immensely popular domestic route Bratislava-Kosice. This December we are launching seven of those amazing routes, from January we will start the new routes to Kutaisi and Yerevan, and we have even more to come in March. This reflects our true commitment to strengthening connectivity in Bratislava and supporting tourism in Slovakia,” said Olivia Harangozo, Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
The airline already announced new services to Gdansk, Mykonos and Poprad for the summer season.
Bratislava expects to handle around 2.4 million passengers by the end of 2025, a growth of over 22% compared to 2024.
