Woman accused of drowning puppy at airport to get on plane
A Florida woman has been arrested for allegedly drowning her two-week-old Doberman puppy in order to take a flight.
Cynthia Anderson, 56, was arrested last week on animal abuse charges, after the puppy was found dead in a toilet at Central Nebraska Regional Airport.
Anderson was earlier denied access to the plane because the dog was too young to travel by plane and was not in a proper carrier.
She was carrying two adult dogs that were permitted carriage, as well as three very young puppies, thought to be just two weeks old.
"The puppies were so young, they didn’t even have their eyes open yet," said Captain Dean Elliot of the Grand Island Police Department.
After Anderson was initially denied travel, she returned home and left two of the three puppies at her parents’ Nebraska home, and then attempted to sneak the other puppy through in her carry-on bag.
After being stopped again, she is alleged to have gone to the airport toilet where she drowned the dog.
Anderson is being remanded on felony animal cruelty charges and could face five years in prison.
