Woman dies on easyJet flight after returning from Caribbean cruise

EasyJet has confirmed that a British woman has died after collapsing on a flight from Gatwick to Malaga.

The woman is believed to have been suffering from a chest infection which she picked up during a Caribbean cruise holiday.

Passengers said the 64-year-old collapsed in her seat as the easyJet flight landed at Malaga airport.

They said crew tried to use a defibrillator to resuscitate the woman, known only as Ann, as the plane taxied to the gate, but she couldn’t be saved.

One passenger, Jacob Rodgers, told Mail Online that he’d met the woman in special assistance. He said she had been vomiting and that she had caught a chest infection on the previous flight.

Mr Rodgers told the publication he was concerned because of her ‘laboured breathing’.

The incident took place two days before dozens of passengers fell ill on a flight to Gatwick from Barbados. There is no suggestion the incidents are connected.

An easyJet spokesperson told the Mail Online: "easyJet can confirm a passenger was taken ill onboard flight EZY8609 from London Gatwick to Malaga on 4 March 2019 after landing in Malaga.

"An onboard doctor performed CPR alongside the crew whilst the aircraft was taxi-ing to its stand.

"The aircraft was met by paramedics and CPR continued but unfortunately the passenger sadly passed away.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the passenger and we have offered support and assistance at this difficult time."

EasyJet added that ground staff and crew won’t allow a passenger to travel if they believe they are unwell and unfit to fly.

"The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority," it said.
