Wong clears air on FVB penalty fee
A report in The Fiji Times says that the Fiji Visitors Bureau did not lose $25,000 in penalty fees when it withdrew its marketing campaign in New Zealand following the expulsion of High Commissioner Michael Green.
FVB chairman Patrick Wong said it was corporate marketing with Air Pacific and wholesalers, adding ”So the penalty fee for the withdrawal was shared three ways.” “It was better that we lost that rather than risk losing $300,000 worth of marketing,”
Mr Wong said the media hype in New Zealand over Mr Green’s expulsion contributed much to Fiji’s marketing posters being pulled down by agencies promoting Fiji in New Zealand, adding, ”But it has to be known that safety is not an issue in Fiji.” “We are still a safe destination.”
