Wong says Fiji tourism is on track
A report in The Fiji Times says that The Chairman of Fiji Visitors Bureau, Patrick Wong believes that the resignation of the FVB’s CEO Viliame Gavoka will not affect the tourism industry’s recovery program and while he describes Mr Gavoka’s departure as a loss, the industry was fortunate to have a lot of skilled people it could rely on.
He said the Bureau, with the Tourism Action Group and other stakeholders, had continued to introduce marketing initiatives that had maintained visitor arrivals despite the security concerns and financial constraints during the past six months, adding, “We are fortunate to have Cherrill Watson as our Director of Marketing”.
He said the board was considering a replacement for Mr Gavoka and also a “think tank” from the private sector.
Fiji Islands Hotels and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto said Mr Gavoka had done good work, adding, “While it is unfortunate, life must go on”.
On Wednesday Mr Gavoka who had cited personal reasons for his resignation, said he was enjoying the break, adding, “I’m just sitting here in my village enjoying all the free time that I now have,” adding that he would simply take it easy and pursue other interests. He did not disclose details.
