World cruise popularity steaming ahead
It was almost a half century ago when the Holland America Line started its first Grand World Voyage. But now, with world cruises catching on, Holland America is expanding its program.
The cruise line in 2008 is expanding its Grand Voyages program with four itineraries. The trips will include 320 days of cruising with 118 ports of call in74 countries.
Holland says “popular demand” is bringing back the 1,380-guest ms Amsterdam to world cruising in 2008. The ship will take a 114-day voyage visiting 39 ports in 29 countries on six continents.
“The itinerary comprises a true circumnavigation of the globe, cruising nearly 36,000 nautical miles,” said the company in a news release.
Who is booking the cruises?
“A Grand World Voyage is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many travelers,” said Richard D. Meadows, a senior vice president.
Cruises can also be booked in separate segments.
