World Snow Day events showcase Beijing Olympic bid
China this week participated in World Snow Day with a specific aim to promote Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
The Chinese Ski Association hosted the ‘World Snow Day and International Children’s Ski Festival’ in 15 ski resorts across the country with special emphasis on those areas earmarked to be used for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games if the city’s bid is successful.
The aim was to boost public support for the bid which has yet to catch the public’s imagination in a big way.
Snow and ice events were held for children to experience skiing and snowboarding and also to promote domestic winter sports tourism.
Further events are planned in the coming weeks as the decision on which city will host the Games draws nearer.
The International Olympic Committee will pick a winner between Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan on July 31 this year during an IOC session in Kuala Lumpur.
