World’s longest non-stop flight lands in New York

The world’s longest flight – 17 hours and 52 minutes – has landed in New York.

The Singapore Airlines’ flight, on an Airbus A350 Ultra Long Range, flew from Singapore Changi to Newark with 150 passengers and 17 crew members on board.

The 9,534-mile journey makes this the world’s longest non-stop flight.

Singapore Airlines has re-launched the service, which first took place in 2013 on an A340-500 but was discontinued because of the high costs.

It is now more financially viable due to the more modern aircraft which requires less fuel.

The aircraft also has fewer passengers onboard and no economy class. There are just 161 seats – 94 in premium economy and 67 flat-bed business class seats.

The non-stop route initially launches with a three-times-a-week service from Singapore on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.

Daily flights start on October 18 when an additional A350-900ULR aircraft enters service.

The aircraft will also be used for non-stop flights between Singapore and LA, due to be launched on November 2, and to increase services to San Francisco.
