New Icelandic airline WOW Air is to launch flights from the UK next summer, competing with easyJet which will also launch flights to Reykjavik in 2012.
WOW will offer three flights a week from Stansted from June 1. EasyJet will launch its thrice weekly service from Luton on March 27. Wow fares will start at £53 one way; easyJet will charge from £32.99 one way and £58.81 return.
WOW Air is Iceland’s newest airline and focuses on flexible travel within Europe at competitive prices. The airline will also fly from Iceland to Alicante, Basel, Berlin, Copenhagen, Krakow, Lyon, Paris, Stuttgart, Warsaw and Zurich.
Visit Iceland marketing manager for the UK & Ireland Sigga Gróa said: “We are delighted that Easyjet and WOW Air are increasing accessibility to Iceland and hope that the additional flights will further increase our rising visitor numbers.
"We want to show visitors that they can come to Iceland for adventure, spas, culture, active sports and nightlife in just a short flight from home.”
There are currently flights to Iceland from Heathrow with Icelandair and from Gatwick with Iceland Express.
